  The Local Area

The neighbours

Cardigan Bay, with beautiful sandy beaches and coves, is home to Europe’s largest colony of bottle-nosed dolphins, harbour porpoises and grey seals.

Amongst the fantastic variety of bird-life, red kites, sparrow hawks and buzzards breed locally. Regular visitors to the farm include herons and woodpeckers.

The rivers are alive with kingfishers, brown trout and otters, and bats reside in the old farm buildings.

Activities

Locally, you can find a myriad of activities - from fishing and walking to horse riding & dry slope skiing. There are plenty of water sports too. You could take a paddle down the Teifi, have a go at white water rafting, or if you are lucky a trip in a traditional coracle. Follow the Brechfa forest trails, explore the local castles or the Teifi Valley steam railway. Or discover the wild horses on the Brecon Beacons.

In West Wales, we are proud that you can find a very large proportion of local produce and handicrafts. Discover how cheese is made and how candles are created; explore the honey farm or the potters or weavers at work…

There are many gardens open to the public including the National Botanical Gardens of Wales is a half hours drive and an excellent day out.

Local Towns

Four miles from the farm, our nearest market town is Newcastle Emlyn where you can find a selection of local shops, pubs and cafes and the ruined castle. You will also find the banks, launderette and leisure centre easily accessible. The town of Cardigan is a few mile further up the valley road with a bustling high street full of local colour as well as a great theatre, cinema and castle.

Further up the coast you will find the brightly coloured harbour town of Aberaeron. Filled with local shops and restaurants, here you can also catch a boat out onto the Bay to explore the coast by sea!

The county town of Aberystwyth is located roughly 20 miles north of the farm at the centre of the crescent of Cardigan Bay. A ride up the cliff railway gives an impressive view of the Bay and the town, which boasts many varied activities.
