Vegetable Box Scheme

the veg box scheme | what is organic farming? | whats in the box? | veg quality | mission statement

What goes into the veg box and why?

Our aim is to provide you with a box of fresh seasonal vegetables each week throughout the year.

Nature knows what our bodies need at certain times of the year and by minimising our use of out of season produce we also avoid the environmentally damaging effects of transporting fruit and vegetables half way around the world.

The average dinner has travelled 2,400km to get to you plate!

Here at the farm we are happy to try our hand at anything that might do well in our climate, and you will find most of the usual veggies in your box as they come into season as well as a few surprises as we try our hand at both new and old unusual varieties. If you have any favourites or suggestions please let us know.

We hope you will never get bored with what goes into your boxes, even of sometimes it is the same thing for several weeks.

We send out a questionnaire to find out your preferences and do our best to accommodate your tastes by finding alternatives. Please remember though that the more alternatives we have to find the more cost may be involved.

We aim to source locally most produce which we don’t grow ourselves.

We have also developed a great network of organic producers who are extremely enthusiastic about selling their produce locally through us to you. Sometimes, especially in the winter months and for the fruit boxes we have to include some imported produce to increase the variety and continue to tantalise your appetites with more than kale and cabbage!
